In healthcare settings, clinical nutrition involves managing the nutritional needs of patients (both inpatients and outpatients). Nutrition is the branch of science that deals with nutrients in food concerning the maintenance, growth, reproduction, health, and diseases of organisms. While diet is the specific intake of nutrients for health-management purposes in this field.
The purpose of a healthy diet is to keep patients' energy levels balanced and provide them with essential nutrients. There are several diseases that can develop as a consequence of an unhealthy diet, including deficiencies (blindness, anemia, scurvy, preterm birth), excesses (obesity, metallic syndrome), and common systemic diseases (cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis). Around the world, malnutrition is a major cause of death and disability.
We empower your health and wellness
A comprehensive range of nutritional services is offered by the Dietetic Department at Choithram Memorial Hospital including nutritional screening, assessment, intervention, and counseling. Clinicians and nurses work together to review medical charts and assess the medical histories and eating habits of patients so that a personalized diet plan can be developed to meet nutritional needs. In addition, the department provides specialized services in the areas of tube feeding (enteral nutrition) and intravenous feeding (parenteral nutrition).
Our department collaborates closely with multiple specialty departments, such as cardiology, diabetology & endocrinology, gastroenterology, gynecology & obstetrics, nephrology, etc, to ensure nutritional care across a variety of health conditions.
Analyzing the nutritional status of the patient, we strive to plan a Medical Nutrition Therapy based on the clinical diagnosis and evaluate progress toward optimal nutrition wellness.
